Requirements
- National Diploma in Geology majoring in Geographic Information Systems plus, 5 years relevant experience OR;
- National Science Diploma in Geographic Information Systems majoring in Geology, plus 5 years relevant experience OR;
- B Tech or BSc Degree in Geology and majoring in Geographic Information Systems, plus 3 years relevant experience OR;
- B Tech or BSc Degree in Geographic Information Systems and majoring in Geology, plus 3 years relevant experience
- SACNASP registered or eligible for registration
- Valid drivers licence
- 4X4 training certification advantageous
- Ability to contribute to research within a dynamic and diverse team environment and capable of building interpersonal relations with clear communication
- Ability to solve and analyse and logistical problems
- Ability to oversee the planning and organising of targeted work and project coordination
- Ability to undertake logistical management of resources
- Ability to train and develop lower level personnel
- Ability to implement quality management systems
- Proficient in professional and scientific writing and communication skills
- Computer literate and the ability to work within a geographic database environment
- Knowledge of software such as GIS applications, ENVI, OPTICS, BM Admin, BM master, CoreLib, Oracle, Geosoft, MS Access, Intellicore, Matlab, Python and report compiler, SURPASS (GERMCOM), Corel DrawX5, Micro station, and 3D geological modelling softwares,
- Knowledge of algorithms and software development for image processing, analyses satellite and spatial and non-spatial data
- Knowledge and understanding of basic geoscience mapping principles and their relation to database design and spatial and non-spatial data presentation.
- Proven geodatabase design and data/information/knowledge management
