Sasol Mining Bursary Programme 2024
About Sasol:
Sasol is inviting students to apply for the Mining Bursary Programme for the 2024 academic year. The bursaries will be awarded to students residing in municipalities in Mpumalanga and the Free State.
Fields of Study:
Bursaries are available for studies in the following fields:
- Electronic Engineering (BEng / BSc)
- Electrical Engineering (BEng / BSc)
- Geology (BEng / BSc)
- Industrial Engineering (BEng / BSc)
- Mechanical Engineering (BEng / BSc)
- Mining Engineering (BEng / BSc)
- Mine Surveying (BEng Tech)
Selection Process:
- Shortlisted candidates will undergo online psychometric testing as part of the selection process before the interview phase.
- Bursaries will be awarded with the condition that students maintain their academic results.
Requirements:
Applicants must meet the following minimum entry criteria:
- South African citizenship (by birth only).
- Reside in specific Sasol Mining Fenceline communities in Mpumalanga and the Free State (details provided in the announcement).
- Completed Matric OR currently in Matric.
- Studying or intending to study full-time in one of the specified undergraduate qualifications.
- Entering the 1st or 2nd year of study in 2024.
- Studying or intending to study at a recognized and accredited South African University (the bursary will not cover studies at UNISA).
- Registered for the degree course over the minimum study period.
- Minimum academic results for BEng, BSc, and Geology students:
- Level 6 (70 – 79%) for Mathematics (not Mathematics Literacy).
- Level 6 (70 – 79%) for Physical Science.
- Level 5 (60 – 69%) for English First Additional Language OR Level 5 (60 – 69%) for English home language OR Level 4 (50 – 59%) for English Second Additional Language.
- Minimum academic results for Mine Surveying students:
- Level 5 (60 – 69%) for Mathematics (not Mathematics Literacy).
- Level 5 (60 – 69%) for Physical Science.
- Level 5 (60 – 69%) for English First Additional Language OR Level 5 (60 – 69%) for English home language OR Level 4 (50 – 59%) for English Second Additional Language.
- Geology students must intend on completing an Honours degree.

Required Supporting Documentation:
Submit clear copies of the following supporting documents with your online application (submission of these documents is compulsory):
- ID document (certified copy)
- Grade 11 final results and Matric latest results (if currently in Matric)
- Matric certificate and recent university results (if currently studying)
- Full academic record (if currently studying)
- Proof of permanent home residence (municipality and district)
