The University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) advertise posts are as follows:

Project Coordinator (AD08) – (Full time fixed-period contract) (AC.08.4)

This full-time, fixed contract until 31 December 2021, position will play a vital role in managing arts and artistic research related events in the Wits School of Arts.  The successful candidate will be co-ordinating the implementation of an Andrew W. Mellon Foundation grant into further investigation of how artistic modes of inquiry can be advanced in the current South African and African contexts.

The successful candidate will be a person who is familiar with the arts ecology of Johannesburg and South Africa and who is able to work collaboratively with artists and academics. The successful candidate should have a strong interest in furthering arts education and research in a university environment.


A Degree or Diploma (minimum NQF7) in an arts related field.
A minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience in Arts/Research Administration.
Strong administrative capacity.
Fully skilled in relevant computer packages, notably word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.


The Project Co-ordinator will be responsible for the management of a range of activities, including:
• Organisation of seminars, symposia and public events
• Manage artistic residencies
• Generating publicity material; and the documentation of such events
• Build a community of arts audiences in the School and beyond
• Manage the Mellon Budget and implementation of its line items, including Mellon bursaries and staff research grants
