Gauteng Dept of Social Development: Bursary Programme 2024 for SA students

The Gauteng Department of Social Development is offering bursaries for the 2024 academic year.

These bursaries are available to Gauteng residents who are passionate about pursuing studies in specific fields related to the social sector. The fields covered by the bursary program include Clinical Psychology, Community Development, Demography and Population Studies, Financial Management, and Occupational Therapy.

The bursary aims to promote skills development and quality education for academically excellent students within the province.

Expenses Covered & Selection: The bursary will cover registration fees, tuition fees, prescribed books, and study materials. Successful candidates will be contacted within three months after the application deadline. If you do not receive feedback by the end of January 2024, consider your application unsuccessful.

Recipients of the bursary will be required to enter into a contractual agreement with the Gauteng Department of Social Development.

Eligibility Criteria for the Gauteng Department of Social Development Bursary: To be eligible for this bursary, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • South African citizenship.
  • Reside within the Gauteng province for a minimum of one year before applying.
  • Completion of Matric.
  • Enrollment or intention to enroll full-time in one of the specified fields in 2024.
  • Acceptance or enrollment at a recognized and accredited South African tertiary institution.
  • Strong academic record.
  • Intent to pursue a career within the social sector.
  • Not currently in receipt of another bursary.

The following candidates are encouraged to apply: students of all races and genders, students with disabilities, and those leaving child and youth care facilities.

  1. Download and complete the Gauteng DSD Bursary Application Form 2024.

  3. Submit clear copies of the required documents along with your completed application form. The following documents are mandatory:
    • Identity Document (certified copy)
    • Matric certificate (certified copy)
    • All education qualifications completed (certified copy)
    • Proof of acceptance or registration at a tertiary institution (on institution’s letterhead)
    • Motivational letter supporting your application
    • Proof of residence in Gauteng
    • Parents or guardians’ proof of household income (latest payslips if employed, affidavit if unemployed, proof of SASSA grant or pension if applicable)
    • Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) voting district verification printout (indicating voting station and ward details), available on the IEC website.
  4. Submit your completed application form and supporting documents to any Gauteng Social Development office or institution.
